On 29th November the Eastern network met at the Science
Learning Centre for the first time. Teachers and lecturers
from all Eastern counties made the journey to meet with
colleagues and share ideas and resources.
The day began with an introduction to a new DVD resource
"Looking at learning in Science". This resource,
originally produced by the Standards Unit, is devised to
be used by groups or individuals wishing to explore a variety
of approaches to improving teaching and learning in Science.
The morning continued with an opportunity to make the most
of the excellent IT facilities at the Science Learning Centre.
Participants turned their hands to resource creation, using
Word, Powerpoint and interactive quizware to create a variety
of resources in their subject areas.

It was then time to reflect on the reality of use of technology
within our Eastern Region. Participants involved with the
Subject Learning Coaches programme used coaching techniques
to encourage others to reflect upon current practice and
consider how they might realistically move forward with
the use of technology within their institutions.
After lunch and a rather speedy tour of some of the Science
Learning Centre's facilities, it was time for participants
to share resources and tips which they had found invaluable
in their own teaching. This vital part of the day is always
appreciated. Lesley Turrell from East Norfolk Sixth Form
College spoke about the interactive resources available
on her College's intranet and Mike Hanlon from South East
Essex College introduced us to the Faulkes telescope resource
at http://www.faulkes-telescope.com.
Other popular websites for use in teaching and learning
this term were also shared. Resources will be shared in
the community area of the Science Learning Centre's web
portal.
